SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – A Springfield business finds itself grappling with a perplexing situation after their air conditioning units were stolen over the weekend, and security cameras were there to capture the audacious theft.
White Smiles Dental, located in the heart of Springfield, is facing the unsettling reality of losing its AC units, raising concerns among local businesses about bolstering security measures.
In light of the missing AC units, White Smiles Dental has made adjustments to their appointment hours for the week. Dr. Preston White, the owner, received a Monday morning call that delivered the unsettling news regarding the AC situation.
In recounting the conversation, Dr. White stated, “She asked, ‘Have you been to the office recently?’ And I said, ‘No.’ She asked, ‘Did you change something with the air conditioning?’ ‘No.’”
Upon arriving at the office, Dr. White immediately noticed something amiss at the back of the building. He remarked, “Usually, there are two 4-ton units sitting here. There are no wires and pipes hanging out of the wall. And usually, my security light is not painted black.”
What initially appeared to be a malfunction quickly unraveled as a meticulously planned theft. Surveillance footage from various cameras around the building captured the entire sequence of events. The video exposes a man in a hat deftly cutting wires, with another individual in a hoodie joining in the operation. Together, they skillfully maneuvered a truck and a trailer to load the stolen AC units, appearing unfazed by the cameras recording their every move.
Dr. White noted, “The guys who came here didn’t seem like they were really concerned about the camera.”
Authorities suspect that the thieves were primarily motivated by valuable materials such as scrap metal and copper, which can be lucratively sold.
